Hiking from Riva del Garda to Pregasina along the old Ponale road
Garda Trentino tourist board special price: € 15 instead of € 25
9.5 kms – 3 hrs – elevation gain ↑350 m
An easy itinerary ideal for everyone, even for children.
This itinerary is rich in history and nature and among the most popular in Europe.
The old road, which historically connected Riva del Garda to Val di Ledro, is cut in the rock wall overhanging lake Garda and offers one of the most attractive views in the upper Garda area! It feels like walking along a balcony hanging over the water and the blue.
Below us the blue and green colours of the rich vegetation, above us the tall vertical rock faces which climb high into the sky. The Old Ponale Road (Strada del Ponale) is closed to motor vehicles and is now a very popular trail for hikers and bikers.
Along the route we will find many engineering works, some were used to build the road itself, others linked to the ancient aqueduct of Riva del Garda. The most fascinating one is the well known ‘Tagliata del Ponale’: a fortification which dates back to the First World War, on different levels all connected between them with a long staircase carved out inside a tunnel.
A pleasant break at the small bar with its nice terrace overlooking the lake, before crossing the Ponale torrent and tackling the last section of bends which lead to the panoramic point of Pregasina.
We'll go back on the same route.
