7.5 kms – 4 hrs – vertical height gain ↑ m 565 ↓ m 565
A historical trekking, an ageless itinerary, hanging between the past and present, where the beauty of the landscape acts as a background to the First World War in this area: Malga Zures. In this place, the Austro Hungarian and Italian armies stood a few hundred metres from each other. To reach our destination, we will climb up along the Austro Hungarian defensive line, where military posts today offer striking views over Lake Garda.

We walk across the historic centre of Nago and head towards the vineyards surrounding the center. We gradually head onto path SAT 601, which goes up above the climbing crags, and accompanied by the lake’s breeze, we will visit the barracks, the tunnels the shooting posts and trenches which made up the complex defensive Austro Hungarian line. We reach Malga Zures, which welcomes us with wide sunny plains but which in 1915 hosted one of the cruellest battles of the area during the First World War. Malga Zures was always firmly controlled by the Austro Hungarian army, but the Italian posts were just a little further on, on Doss Alt. It is possible to visit the small military cemetery nearby.
A short break before heading back. We head into the valley, this time along the ancient mule track (path SAT 632), which allows us to admire the imposing crag of Nago and its history.

• Military cemetery, posts and military artifacts at Malga Zunes.
• Barracks, tunnels, shooting posts and Austro Hungarian trenches of Segrom
• Lots of panoramic points over Lake Garda
• Nago’s climbing crag
