Monumento a William O. Darby

On 30th April 1945, a contingent of American troops led by Colonel Darby landed in Torbole on amphibious craft and occupied the town which had been abandoned bythe German Wehrmacht. That same day, a German artillery outpost on Monte Brione bombarded the town and mortally wounded the colonel. In 1995, his soldiers erecteda stele to commemorate the sacrifice of their commander in front of the church of Santa Maria al Lago.
