Quartiere del Marocco

This quarter directly underneath the Rocchetta probably got its name from the heaps of landslide debris which came down from the slopes of the mountain above. It is an area of narrow laneways and traditional houses which were homes in the past to craftsmen. Worthy of note are the elegant Bishop’s Palace in the upper piazza where you can also find the old public wash house and a little shrine to San Rocco.
